16 Bean Soup Mix

One our more popular bean offerings. These are excellent beans for making soups and bean dishes, and a good source of essential protein. When sealed in our airtight containers, 16 bean mix boasts a fantastic shelf life - upwards of 25+ years! These are an essential addition to any food storage program.

Directions: For overnight soaking, cover each cup of beans with 3 cups water and let stand overnight or 12 hours. For quicker results, add dry beans to boiling water boiling 2 minutes and let stand for 1 hour, or use a pressure cooker like the Instant Pot (cooking time reduced to under 1 hour).

Cooking: Cover and simmer slowly bean mix in water until beans are tender, about 2 hours. Simmer gently and stir as little as possible. Add 1/8 tsp. baking soda per cup of beans to shorten cooking time in hard water. Do not add tomatoes, lemon juice, wine, or vinegar until beans are almost tender as they delay softening.

** We prepare our beans (and grains and everything else that needs cooking) using an "Instant Pot" (electric pressure cooker), which drastically reduces preparation time for any type of food, including beans, grains, meat or vegetables. They are incredibly convienent and quick to use. Simply add in the chosen ingredients and set the electronic timer, the Instant Pot does the rest and will automatically depressurize, keeping the food warm for hours. For us, this wonderful device is used near-daily for our breakfast, lunch and dinner foods we eat. These modern pressure cookers will also dramatically tenderize and flavor the food (with seasoning) and can significantly increase the different type and variety of meals anyone can prepare at home.
